The Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications or DECT as it is known worldwide is now a global technology accepted by almost all countries. Since 1999 more than 100 countries have allocated frequencies for this technology based telecommunication. Frequency band 1880 MHz - 1990MHz is now made applicable for DECT cordless phones in Europe. At the time of inception it was intended for both private PABX systems and public utility areas. But it is more or less used for domestic cordless telephones.
Cordless Phones were widely used prior to the introduction of cellular phones to enable the user to move about while talking. The technology involves the use of radio waves instead of wires as in the case of landline telephones. The cordless handset and the cradle at the subscriber’s premises constitute the base station that is connected to the fixed telephone line within a specific range. But for the wireless system it works as in the case of a landline telephone. The base station is a unique arrangement for the cordless telephone. Power is required to energize the base station whereas in the case of corded telephone power supply is not at all necessary. The battery which supplies power will be recharged while the hand set is on the cradle.
The digital technology incorporated in the DECT make it more sophisticated and free from interference from outside sources. New innovations are in the market in which the users can make calls to other type of telephones through internet. Further, the DETC telephone models are now provided with facilities to have additional handsets extended from the base station. The facility makes it an ideal device for large households or home offices. The range of the DECT cordless telephones vary according to models. The technology is being upgraded periodically and the range up to 100 feet is now attainable.
As mentioned earlier the cordless phones are activised by power supplied from the rechargeable battery. Under normal circumstances the charge will be retained up to 100 hours. The system is equipped with facility to alert the user when the power is very low and require recharging, which will be done when the handset is replaced on the cradle.
There are highly sophisticated models available in the market today. Most modern cutting edge technology is being adopted in the manufacturing of DECT cordless telephones by reputed companies. Models with both audio and video facility are also available, but they are expensive.
However there are apprehensions about the health hazards posed by the DECT phones. Many people assert that the radio signals or the pulses will penetrate through the walls and harm the neighbours. But such apprehensions are not proved beyond doubts through research, according to those who defend this technology.
The DECT cordless telephones are being manufactured by many reputed multi national companies and available throughout the world. Internet is a good source to collect valuable information about them. Online dealers offer variety of benefits like discounts and after sale service. Some of them also offer free shipping. |
