Computer mouse, one of the most important pointing devices is available in different models, designs and colours. The device is modified according to usage. The two types of computer mouse are mechanical mouse and optical mouse. Mechanical mouse contains a rubber ball that makes the cursor move according to the rotation of the internal rollers. Though mechanical mouse are very robust, they need frequent cleaning to remove the dirt on the rollers and the ball for smooth running. Optical mouse or the laser mouse works well on multitude of surfaces. Optical mouse does not work well on bright surfaces and in bright lights. Wireless mouse need to be pointed to the receiver. 

Computer mouse uses three types of interfaces. The first type is the serial type, which comes with 9 pin d-type plug. Computer system needs to be restarted when the mouse is plugged with this interface. The second type of interface is PS/2 type, which is a circular DIN connector. This type of interface is easy to setup. The third type of Computer Mouse is the USB interface mouse. This interface can be plugged in to any USB port. It is very flexible and can be removed when the computer is on.

The main difference between a mechanical mouse and optical mouse is that optical mouse does not come with rolling balls and wheels. Another category of mouse is the laser mouse. Laser mouse works on laser radiations instead of LED lights. Laser mouse are very effective and user friendly for the most sensitive jobs. Installation procedure for the computer mouse is very simple and does not need any experts help.
