There is no need to emphasize the importance of regular and systematic cleaning of the freezer which plays an important role in preserving food. The lid of the freezer should be kept open to allow fresh air to circulate and expedite the speed of the defrosting. Once the freezer attains room temperature and the accumulated ice is completely disappeared, remove the water collected at the bottom of the freezer box.
The next step is to wash the interior with warm water mixed with baking soda or vinegar. Also wash the interior surface of the lid. Clean all the grooves and corners where food remnants might be accumulated. Remember that such remnants will attract germs and bacteria and cause contamination of stored food. Rinse the freezer thoroughly with warm water and baking soda before wiping with dry cloth.
Remove the freezer from its installed position and vacuum the exteriors, floor underneath and coils if they are exposed. Utmost care should be taken while vacuuming the coils to avoid damage to them. The exterior of the freezer can be cleaned with soapy solution. Once the cleaning is completed and the interior is dry, it is ready for reconnection.
Before replacing the baskets, containers etc wash each of them and wipe with clean cloth. If necessary use mild dishwashing liquid to clean them. Once the freezer and its contents are thoroughly cleaned and dried, put back everything in place before restoring power supply. Wait till the freezer attains freezing temperature to store food items again. Always take care to note the expiry dates of each item so that the existing stock can be utilized first before replenishing fresh stocks.
While cleaning check the seals to ensure proper closing of the lids or doors. Replace the seals if necessary. As a precaution read the manufacturer’s instructions contained in the manual for guidance.
