With battery prices soaring up in the sky, a battery charger is definitely a boon from technology. A battery charger is used for recharging a battery by passing electric current through it. The amount of current required to charge the battery depends upon the battery that is being put to charge.
There are various types of battery chargers available in the market.
Simple: Here a constant DC power supply is given to the battery continuously, until it is removed from the charger. This type takes long in charging and also if left for long, the batteries get over charged and thus damaged.
Timer based chargers: Here, the current stops after a specific time that is set up, so that the problem of over charging is avoided. But if the time set is not properly done, then this results again in over charging.
Intelligent chargers: In this type, the electricity output depends on the battery’s state. If the battery has a bit of charge in it, then only the remaining is filled, thus removing the concept of over charging.
Fast: Mostly these types of chargers have a small fan to cool the charger and thus increasing the speed of charging.
USB Based: These type of chargers use a USB cable to obtain charge for recharging. This is one of the latest methods of charging, as USB types are now gaining importance.
Thus, with batteries being expensive, it is good to have such alternatives which are quite useful to all. If the over charging thing is overlooked or taken good care of, then this is definitely a very good means of saving money! |
